Skills
One tree, twelve archetypes
There are no fixed classes: the tree has three branches with four archetypes each, linked by hybrid nodes. You can go down any path, as long as the nodes connect, and mix playstyles.
Warrior branch
Melee: swords, axes, hammers, shields.
Ranger branch
Bows, daggers and survival. In 1.0, dagger skills moved from the warrior area to Assassin.
Mage branch
Wands, staffs, spells, healing and, in 1.0, summons.
Where skill points come from
| Source | Points |
|---|---|
| Leveling up | 2 per level (up to level 50) |
| Destroying a Shroud Root | 1 |
| Completing an Elixir Well | 3 |
Values from the wiki. Each Shroud Root and Elixir Well gives points only once per player, even if the world respawns. 1.0 adds 12 Shroud Roots in Cinder's Cradle and 6 more near the edges of the map. To respec, use the Flame Altar (it costs runes per spent point, according to the wiki).
New skills
The skills 1.0 added to the tree, according to the official notes. Keen Games also lowered costs and buffed the effects of many others.
| Skill | Area | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Aerial Wand Attack | Mage | An area wand attack performed in mid-air. |
| Wand Evasion Attack | Mage | An attack while dodging, with wider piercing projectiles. |
| Advanced Necromancy | Mage | More skeletons summoned at once. |
| Totem Mastery | Mage | More totems summoned at once. |
| Blast and Cast | Mage | After a wand critical hit, your next staff attack within 10 s gets +50% base damage. |
| Puncture | Ranger | More ranged piercing damage. |
| Barrage | Ranger | Dealing damage with bows has a chance to restore 1 durability to the weapon. |
| Survival Instinct | Ranger | Killing a Shroud-infested enemy with a bow or dagger gives back seconds of Shroud time. |
| Airborne Architect | Building | Build in a free-flying mode (at the center of the tree). |
Skills that make a difference
Some well-known skills in the tree, according to the wiki. 1.0 changed the costs and positions of several, so we do not list point costs here.
Double Jump
A second jump in mid-air (between Survivor and Athlete). Very useful for exploring.
Updraft
Jumping while gliding gives you a height boost, once per flight, for mana. In 1.0 its behavior can be set in the settings.
Sneak Attack
Much more damage against an enemy that has not seen you. Pairs well with the new enemy awareness system.
Merciless Attack
Massive damage to an enemy you have overpowered.
