What's new in 1.0
Coming from Early Access?
Your skill tree has been reset
The first time you play 1.0 with an existing character, the skill tree is reset and your points are refunded. Spend them before you leave your base, or you will be fighting without any skills.
Old saves
They work in 1.0 and are converted to a new format. But Keen Games changed a lot in the world and the first hours of play, so it recommends starting over.
No need to buy again
If you bought the game on PC during Early Access, you already have 1.0.
Early Access reward
Three exclusive decorative props (a statue over 4 meters tall, a tome with the Early Access “E” and a light signal). Redeem them with the Redeem Add-Ons button in the escape menu.
The full map
Cinder's Cradle New biome
- Up north, past the Veilwater Basin gates, which now open.
- Two layers: below, lava and ruins in a wasteland; above, floating islands raised by the Ancients.
- A new faction with 14 enemy types (37 new faces in total, counting variants for the other factions).
- 12 new Shroud Roots. It is bigger than Blackmire and smaller than Veilwater Basin.
- Locked chests and doors need the new Archaic lockpicks.
The rest of Embervale
- Two new Hollow Halls: in Albaneve Summits and in Veilwater Basin (bring your snorkel).
- New areas near the edges of the map, mainly in Springlands, Blackmire and Kindlewastes, with quests and 6 extra Shroud Roots.
- The main quest takes you to locked structures in the old biomes, whose doors finally open.
- Most former no-build zones now accept bases.
- Quests are now split into main and side quests.

Mages, archers and enemies
9 new spells
Every spell now has an Eternal version (tier 7, 22 in total) that uses no charges and can be upgraded like weapons. Wands gained a heavy attack that pierces enemies.
Archers and arrows
- New skills: Puncture, Barrage and Survival Instinct.
- New Eternal arrows: Fire, Shock and Bone. Eternal arrows can be upgraded too.
- Aim assist options for ranged weapons (on by default for controller, off for mouse and keyboard).
Enemies
- New variants for every faction (such as the Fell and the Scavengers), including heavy and elite enemies.
- Enemies recover health gradually when you leave combat. If you return to a boss quickly, it has not fully healed yet.
- Enemies search for you when they hear noise, instead of just knowing where you are.
- They can drop rings. They no longer drop water pouches.
Albaneve Summits boss
- Much less health and a new phase where it lands exhausted, for melee players.
- Wider arena with grappling hook anchors, and the Shroud was lowered below the walkable area.
- Stun arrows and shock damage fill the stun bar better. The weak point on its back works with every weapon.
Other highlights
Sparkworks
A new logic system: connect levers, pressure plates and other elements to doors, traps and enemy encounters, in a 2D graph editor. Make dungeons, puzzles, parkour or escape rooms and share them through Adventure Sharing.
Airborne Architect
A new skill at the center of the tree that lets you build in a free-flying mode.
Upgradable chests
Regular chests can be upgraded and converted into magic chests without emptying them. Chests and map markers can now be named.
Fishing rework
Every fish lives in every body of water: you pick the bait for the tier you want. Improved bait guarantees the fish is of that tier.
Voices and narrated books
Notes, letters and books are voiced in English, German and Mandarin Chinese, and you can queue them while exploring. The main survivors talk too.
Graphics
A new “brick renderer” with far more distant detail, better performance with less memory, and HDR support.
